It was just after 0200 (two am) on May 10th 1973 when the Avro CF-100
started its turn southbound. It was high above the Tundra, in northern
Quebec, cruising in the dark skies at forty one thousand feet. The
Electronic Warfare Officer readied his electronic jammers and chaff
dispensers for the upcoming electronic battle. The target assigned by the
North American Air Defence (NORAD) was Ottawa, Ontario. Little did
the NORAD fighter pilots know, at that time, that this would be an action
filled sleepless night. Meanwhile most Canadians were in a deep sleep and
would never be aware of what happened in the skies above their home.
